Some of the best known names in music have been lined up for what is being billed as the North East’s biggest ever pop concert. JLS, Little Mix and The Wanted are among the acts due to play at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light in June at North East Live.

The concert is the third summer gig to be announced at the Sunderland AFC ground, following American rock group Bon Jovi and R’n’B superstar Rihanna.

North East Live will be a five-hour, family-friendly extravaganza with some of the top acts from the UK charts.

SAFC’s commercial director Gary Hutchinson said: “This is a change from the type of music event the Stadium of Light has staged previously and it’s a really exciting development for us.

“It’s a brilliant line-up and one that I’m sure will appeal to a wide audience. The tremendous work of Sunderland City Council has made this possible, along with support from a range of partners across the region.

“We’re delighted to be working with AEG on this event and to be playing a key role in bringing the best music events to the North East as well as showcasing our own regional talent.

“We’ve already seen that there is a huge demand for live music here in the region and this multi-artist event has something for everyone, at an affordable price for a great day’s entertainment.”

Acts so far confirmed for the concert include JLS, The Wanted, Rita Ora, Little Mix, Lawson, Conor Maynard, Stooshe, Union J and Amelia Lily. Other artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
