Shawn Mendes, Virgin EMI’s most recent signee, dropped his first single “Life of The Party” last month, hitting #1 on the iTunes charts within 90 minutes release.

In addition “Life of The Party” charted top 5 in 13 countries including Brazil, Sweden, Norway, and top 10 in 20 countries. The 15 year old singer-songwriter and viral online sensation, whose videos have amassed over 13.2 million YouTube views and and 2.5 million followers on Vine, released his EP this week and it shot straight to #1 across the world! The EP was released in the UK this week, and stormed straight into the Top 10 on the iTunes chart.

Shawn has recently embarked on his first tour joining The Vamps and Austin Mahone for dates around North America. The tour kicked in Dallas last Sunday, and culminates on 21st August in Philadelphia.

Within just 15 minutes of Shawn making the #ShawnsFirstSingle announcement last month on twitter, the hashtag was trending worldwide with over 300,000 mentions. When speaking about “Life of The Party” with Seventeen Magazine, Shawn explains how he connected to the lyrics because of its message to “being happy with who you are; as a 15-year-old going through high school, that’s what we struggle with –figuring out who we are and who we want to be.”

This is Shawn’s first original song release, following his rise to notoriety in the past few months from acoustic renditions of popular songs that spread quickly across the internet and caught the attention of many including Ed Sheeran and Vine-Celebrity Nash Grier, amongst others.

In less than one year since he first began using the digital platform Vine to record himself singing covers, Shawn Mendes has become one of today’s most buzzed-about young artists. In March 2014, he beat over 30 young YouTubers to win RyanSeacrest.com’s “Best Cover Song” Contest with his rendition of A Great Big World’s “Say Something”.

In late 2013, over 2,000 fans showed up to his first public appearance in Toronto’s Dundas Square, and his first headline show in Toronto sold out in under 24 hours. He has accumulated over 13 million YouTube views as his clips have spread across Vine (over 2.6 million follwers), YouTube (over 610,000 subscribers), Instagram (over 1.3 million followers), Twitter (over 1.2 million followers), Facebook (over 355,000 followers), and every online social outlet imaginable. Heading into the summer, Shawn is just getting started, writing and recording his own music, and growing into one of our brightest new stars.
