the End the Silence charity campaign have revealed that Noel Gallagher’s first record was Slade’s ‘Cum on Feel The Noize’ while HRH Princess Eugenie’s fondest childhood musical memory is of her mother singing ‘Daydream Believer’ on royal family car journeys.

Real life royalty and rock royalty are sharing their most precious childhood songs on YouTube today for the End the Silence campaign by Hope and Homes for Children. The aim is to raise awareness and funds for eight million children locked away in orphanages without love, family and music.

“I would have been six or seven years old sitting watching Top of the Pops. It was a major thing in British culture, a Thursday night, you get paid on the Friday, you buy the seven inch to dance to on the Saturday, it’s perfect…reminds me of where Oasis got their sound from, pretty much.” recalls Noel, in his exclusive End the Silence interview on YouTube.

Rock legend, Ozzy Osbourne chose The Beatles’ ‘She Loves You’ and says: “That song changed my life…had such an impact on me…/…when that song came on, I knew from then on what I wanted to do with my life.”

HRH Princess Eugenie, who has also signed up to the campaign, chose The Monkees ‘Daydream Believer’ as the track of her childhood.

The 27-year-old royal said: “Growing up I used to get really car sick. I always remember coming to the last moment of getting there, and I’d be like ‘how long until we get there?’. Everyone in the car would be like ‘it’s just around the corner’, and then I’d get really sick and they’d turn this on and say ‘cheer up sleepy Jean’. My mum sang it, my friends sang it, everyone.”

Ozzy Osbourne, Noel Gallagher, Royal Blood, Duran Duran, Bastille, Anne-Marie, Hozier, Jonas Blue, Rudimental, Paul Simonon, Damon Albarn and The Script are among the other big names who have filmed exclusive interviews on YouTube sharing the songs of their childhood. All videos are available to watch today on each artist’s YouTube channel and on www.endthesilence.com.

These incredible names join Elton John, Ed Sheeran, Paul Weller, Emeli Sande, Paloma Faith, KT Tunstall, Sigrid, Wolf Alice, Huey Morgan and Kasabian, who have already released videos as part of End the Silence.

The campaign aims to create the world’s largest online musical memory time capsule before Christmas, while raising £1.5m in donations. This will help Hope and Homes for Children find families for 120,000 children suffering silence and neglect in Ugandan and Rwandan orphanages. Every pound donated before 27th December will be doubled by the UK Government.

Today, Hope and Homes for Children invites the world to help End the Silence by sharing your musical memory and nominating up to three of your friends or family to do the same – go to www.endthesilence.com or follow the hashtag #EndTheSilence to join in.
