In what has been an incredible year for the Canadian singer, Justin Bieber has beaten off strong competition from previous winners Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Rihanna and Adele to claim the top spot. The first male to top the list, Bieber has risen an amazing 36 places from 2015’s list after being dominant across the board on Twitter, YouTube, airplay and charts.

In addition to pop heavyweights such as Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding and Rita Ora, the Pop Powerlist sees new entries in the Top 20 from The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes and James Bay. ZAYN is also a newcomer to the list, standing at #No.8, just five positions below former band mates One Direction and one place above fellow X Factor alumni Little Mix.
The Brits rule the Top 20 of the list this year, with a whopping eleven British artists on the chart, verses four each from the USA and Canada and one from Barbados. The list is also a close gender split, with eleven male artists or band members to nine female.
