The Gathering Sounds has completed its 2026 line-up, bringing more than 50 artists to seven stages across Stockton-on-Tees for one huge day dedicated to discovering the next wave of UK music.

Tom A. Smith, overpass, Basht., TTSSFU, VLURE, Humour, Good Health Good Wealth, Little Grandad, Esmeralda Road, Bloodworm, FLETCHR FLETCHR, Pyncher, M60 and Shelf Lives are among the names heading to Stockton on Saturday 26 September, as the independent festival prepares for its biggest edition yet.

The final announcement sees Esmeralda Road, Little Grandad, VLURE, 24 Hours In Paris, Idle Hands, MOSS, PROJECTOR and The Youth Play complete a bill built around a simple idea: catch the bands you already love, take a chance on somebody you’ve never heard of and perhaps discover the act everyone will be talking about a year from now.

Overpass

The stage splits are now confirmed, with overpass heading The Point at ARC, Tom A. Smith topping a Georgian Theatre bill featuring VLURE, Humour and PROJECTOR, Basht. leading KU, Shelf Lives heading ARC2 and TTSSFU topping The Social Room alongside Esmeralda Road.

TTSSFU

For a festival built around getting to artists early, the final additions feel particularly fitting.

Esmeralda Road are moving quickly. Formed in Belfast in 2023 before relocating to London, the band have already supported Liam Gallagher and spent the summer building a reputation as an increasingly exciting live act. They arrive in Stockton at exactly the right point in their journey: enough buzz to know something is happening, but early enough to say you were there.

Then there’s Little Grandad, perhaps one of the festival’s purest discovery bookings. The London four-piece only emerged last year, but their blend of alt-country, Americana, slacker-rock and loose-limbed British indie has already gathered serious momentum. NME named them as a Radar act this summer, while sold-out London shows have followed as the buzz continues to grow.

VLURE

If Little Grandad represent one side of the bill, VLURE occupy an entirely different space.

The Glasgow five-piece create huge, cathartic music somewhere between a post-punk gig and a 3am rave. Their debut album Escalate featured Bobby Gillespie and earned a five-star NME review, while their reputation as a live act makes them one of the standout additions to the final announcement.

Also joining the line-up are 24 Hours In Paris, Idle Hands, MOSS and Brighton trio PROJECTOR, whose collision of industrial post-punk, grunge and shoegaze adds another darker edge to the festival.

Completing the final wave are London alternative band The Youth Play, bringing shoegaze, indie and post-punk to a bill that increasingly feels like a snapshot of where UK guitar music is heading next.

And that’s before getting to the rest of the poster.

Sunderland’s Tom A. Smith headlines The Georgian Theatre, continuing a relationship with The Gathering Sounds that stretches back to the earliest stages of his career.

overpass arrive following sold-out tours and support runs with The Wombats, Inhaler and Wunderhorse, while Belfast’s Basht. bring their increasingly formidable live reputation. TTSSFU add a woozier collision of shoegaze, grunge and dream-pop.

There’s Glasgow post-punk from Humour, the genre-blurring live chaos of Good Health Good Wealth, alongside Bloodworm, FLETCHR FLETCHR, Pyncher, M60, Shelf Lives, Pack of Animals, The Kowloons, Andrew Johnson & The Others, Central Arcade, Honeylight, Park View, Strop and Weathership.

And crucially for a festival rooted in Teesside, the North East isn’t simply represented — it runs right through the bill. Charlie Floyd, Marketplace, Swindled, Daisy Brown and George Bailey join Tom A. Smith in a regional contingent showcasing the depth of talent coming out of the North East.

Jordan Kean from The Gathering Sounds said:

“We wanted to keep a few proper surprises back for the final announcement. Esmeralda Road and Little Grandad are two of those bands where you can feel things moving really quickly around them, while VLURE are just an incredible live band and one we’ve wanted to bring to Stockton.

“What excites me most, though, is looking right through the poster. There are artists from the North East alongside bands from Glasgow, Belfast, Birmingham, Manchester, London and right across the UK and Ireland, and there are genuinely brilliant discoveries everywhere you look.

“That’s always been the point of Gathering Sounds. Come because there are three or four bands you already love, spend the day moving between the venues and hopefully go home talking about somebody you’d never even heard of that morning. Now the stage splits are out, people can finally start putting those plans together.”

Since launching in 2018, The Gathering Sounds has developed a reputation for getting there early, with previous editions featuring KEO, The Royston Club, Sports Team, The K’s, Lottery Winners, ZUZU, Red Rum Club, Antony Szmierek, Fat Dog, CVC and STONE on their way through.

For one Saturday in September, the idea remains pleasingly simple:

50+ acts. Seven stages. One massive day of live music — and a very good chance you’ll find your next favourite band.

The Gathering Sounds takes place across Stockton-on-Tees on Saturday 26 September 2026.
