Lewis Capaldi headlined the second of two headline shows at BST Hyde Park on Sunday night, with The Kooks’ Luke Pritchard joining him for a duet of the band’s 2006 classic, Naive.
Arriving on stage as the sunset turned the sky gold, Capaldi wore a denim jacket over a white T-shirt and black trousers, opening with Hollywood, Grace and the uplifting Heavenly Kind of State of Mind.
“Night two! We couldn’t fit another c*** in here if we tried,” he joked. “There’s 60,000 people in here – thank you for coming, thank you for being here, thank you for the money. And we’re going to have fun, you and I. I’m going to be sweating, you’re going to be sweating.”
Spotting Scottish and Celtic flags throughout the audience, Capaldi also couldn’t resist referencing England’s World Cup quarter-final victory.
“Everybody enjoy the football last night? Less said about that the better for me,” he laughed.
“We have a shit load of ballads to get through… and by God, we’re going to sing them and we’re going to sing them well.”
And sing them he did. Almost and Forever were followed by his breakthrough single Bruises, before Pointless and the emotional Something in the Heavens settled over Hyde Park as darkness fell.
Following Sam Fender’s surprise appearance on Saturday night, Capaldi welcomed another special guest.
“I thought I’d like to get someone on who has meant a lot to me over the last 20 odd years. I saw a video from Reading in 2006 of this particular band playing this particular song, and I remember thinking that’s what I want to do when I’m older. It had a profound effect on me.
“For my money, it’s one of the best songs ever written… Please welcome Mr Luke Pritchard from The Kooks, everybody.”
As Pritchard walked on stage, Hyde Park erupted before the pair launched into Naive, with 65,000 fans singing every word.
Speaking to us earlier, Pritchard said: “I remember the first time I heard Lewis sing. It was pretty amazing hearing that voice. I heard Lewis liked our band and came to see us at Brixton Academy during lockdown. We kept in touch after that, but this offer came completely out of the blue.
“Naive being the chosen song? That was all Lewis. I actually suggested we do a B-side and he wasn’t having any of it! I can’t wait for people to hear it. I wrote it as a teenager, and it brings people together through vulnerability. I think that’s something Lewis shares.”
The hits kept coming with Before You Go, while The Day That I Die provided one of the evening’s quietest moments as Capaldi performed alone at the piano. Removing his in-ear monitors once again for Hold Me While You Wait, the crowd carried the chorus before Forget Me closed the main set.
Returning for the encore, Survive gave fans one final chance to sing before the inevitable finale of Someone You Loved.
“This is a dream come true for me, doing this for two nights,” Capaldi told the audience. “I’m going to go away after this summer and make a new album for everybody. I hope when I come back you’ll still be there and we can do this again. My name is Lewis Capaldi and I’ll see you very soon.”
Joining the tour from California, Conan Gray was personally invited by Capaldi to support the BST Hyde Park shows. Performing tracks including The Cut That Always Bleeds, Eleven Eleven and Heather, the bedroom-pop star continued his Wishbone World Tour.
Alessi Rose showcased songs from her second EP, telling the crowd: “I’m super honoured to be here. I’ve been to BST so many times as someone in the crowd and always dreamed of playing this stage. I love Lewis Capaldi, I love Conan Gray.”
Closing with oh my., she thanked both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Jacob Alon delivered another mesmerising performance before dedicating Pushing to Pull Away to Capaldi.
“I’d love to give a massive thank you to Lewis for having me on this tour,” they said. “He bought me this guitar yesterday. No one has ever done something so kind for me before. I want to dedicate this song to him and tell him I love him so much.”
Absolutely, whose older sister is RAYE, impressed with flawless vocals and introduced the title track from her latest album, Paracosm, describing it as “the embodiment of childlike wonder.”
Over on the Rainbow Stage presented by British Airways, Portland singer-songwriter Alexandra Savior headlined with material from her latest album Beneath the Lilypad.
Folk Bitch Trio charmed the audience with rich harmonies, while Scottish singer-songwriter Murdo Mitchell brought his travelling troubadour spirit to Hyde Park.
Beattie opened the Rainbow Stage with a captivating alt-rock set inspired by Lana Del Rey.
On the Birdcage Stage, Sadie Jean performed songs from Early Twenties Torture, Ber showcased tracks from her debut album Good, Like It Should Be, Mike Sharp & The Bicycle Thieves brought infectious big-band energy, and Luke Hart impressed with his viral hit Binding.
The full BST Hyde Park 2026 headliner series featured Garth Brooks, ATEEZ, Maroon 5, Mumford & Sons, Duran Duran, Pitbull and Lewis Capaldi.
