Ellie Goulding has returned with her brand-new single “Black Prada Dress”, following the recent announcement of her highly anticipated sixth studio album, I Know Too Much, set for release on 4 September 2026.
The track was first premiered during Ellie’s performance at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2026 over the bank holiday weekend, where it immediately generated a huge response from fans online. Clips of the performance quickly spread across social media, building anticipation for the official release.
On Sunday 7 June, Goulding will perform “Black Prada Dress” on Later… with Jools Holland, marking a full-circle moment in her career after first appearing on the iconic music show in 2009 ahead of her debut album.
Ellie Goulding Explores Identity and Self-Perception on “Black Prada Dress”
“Black Prada Dress” examines the tension between perception and reality, offering a self-aware portrait of the identities people construct to survive, perform and protect themselves. The track gradually unravels these layers in real time, showcasing a more introspective side of Goulding’s songwriting.
The single serves as an early introduction to the themes explored throughout I Know Too Much. Written by Ellie Goulding and produced by executive producer Jack Rochon, the song emerged from a creative partnership that began after Goulding discovered Rochon on TikTok while he was still relatively unknown.
Known for spotting emerging talent throughout her career, Goulding previously discovered producer Starsmith during her early years in music. She and Rochon have spent the past several years crafting the sound and vision of her upcoming album together.
“Black Prada Dress really sets the tone for ‘I Know Too Much’. The album came from the idea that maybe we can know too much. There is a certain kind of freedom in the ease of not knowing.
This album is a collection of songs that represent a crossroads in my life where I realised what the freedom of not knowing has gifted me in the past, yet a time when I am at the precipice of understanding the true power in knowing.
Through the chaos of this great change, I went to my comfort zone and found my refuge in the studio. My initial instinct was I didn’t know where it was all going, but I just knew I needed to be in the studio. Writing a song has always been my best form of therapy.”
