The fans of ten global superstars have taken to Twitter over the past two weeks to fight it out to be crowned the most powerful fan tribe in the world as part of 4Music’s Last Fan Standing, a competition of the world’s most popular artists where the victor is ultimately selected by the audience.

Following a close battle, The Directioners stormed to victory, pulling in 2,847,014 votes – 34 per cent of the total vote, leaving Nicki Minaj’s Barbz trailing behind in second place with 26 per cent of the vote.

Last Fan Standing is the biggest celebration of fandom ever and puts the dedication and support of fans across the world to the test through a social vote. Over the fortnight-long voting period, fans Tweeted declarations of support for their favourite artist, including their respective fan group hashtag to count as a vote.  They could also check out the unique Twitter and Instagram content, including videos and images submitted by fellow fans and competitors alike.

One Direction’s legendary Directioners beat Beyonce’s BeyHive, Ariana Grande’s Arianators, Rihanna’s Navy,Justin Bieber’s Beliebers, Katy Perry’s Katy Cats, and 5 Seconds of Summer’s 5SOS Fam to win the vote.

Last year’s winners, Taylor Swift’s Swifties, fell from grace with just 2 per cent of the vote, compared to 24 per cent in 2014. Ed Sheeran’s Sheerios were left at the bottom of the table, with less than 1 per cent of the vote.

Matt Rennie, MD at The Box Plus Network, said “Clearly slimming down from a five-piece to a four-piece hasn’t dented the passion of their fans. We love One Direction and what’s clear is that we’re not alone, in fact there are MILLIONS of us devoted to the pop sensations, so many we could even consider starting a 1D cult! In fact, all of the fan groups showed their amazing loyalty, well almost all. The Sheerios might want to have a little word with themselves!”

Watch the results live on 4Music, Friday 22nd May 2015 at 5pm. Repeated Saturday 23rd May at 10am, Sunday 24th May at 3pm and Monday 25th May at 5pm.

Box TV recently rebranded to The Box Plus Network and Last Fan Standing is another campaign using Spredfast technology to gather and display social content for both online and on TV, and marks its ongoing investment into exclusive multi-platform social formats.
